A class action may soon be forming on behalf of individuals who purchased wood flooring products from The Home Depot Home Decorators Collection. Some individuals who purchased the products say the flooring was not nearly as easy to install as Home Depot advertised.

The Home Depot sells over 40 of these wood flooring products on the company’s website, which are marketed as an easy-to-install wood laminate flooring product with a glueless locking system. Numerous consumers have reported, however, that the flooring is very difficult to install and prone to warping. They also allege that, despite marketing claims, glue is necessary for proper installation.

Some consumers report that the “Distressed Brown Hickory 12 mm x 6.26 in. x 50.78 in. Laminate Flooring” cannot be correctly installed without first gluing each and every panel. On the website reviews, one customer wrote that, “This flooring is total garbage. I purchased it for the look and price, which happen to be the only good things about it. Installing it without boards popping up all over is impossible unless you want to glue almost every panel together, which I do not. I will be taking it up and returning what I can so I can buy a laminate or hardwood with a true locking system. I wish I would have researched better and read more reviews before buying this product and trying to save a few bucks.”

Some customers complained online that the panels were so warped they were rendered unusable. “Was a nightmare to install,” wrote one reviewer, adding, “planks were warped, so you have one straight piece and one warped piece. Out of 93 boxes we took 13 boxes back that were single pieces mixed in the original 93 boxes. Very poor quality.”

Even consumers with years of experience installing flooring have been unable to install The Home Depot’s laminate flooring product with a glueless locking system. “I have installed a number of laminate floors and this was, by far, the worst to install,” said one experienced reviewer. “There is not enough tongue width to prevent the floor from wanting to lift between joints. The short joint will not always be tight because the base material of the laminate will be butted together, but the surface gap will vary. I am a long time Home Depot shopper; however, I am not at all satisfied with this product.”
